VOIP on a PDA, now for free community WiFi

Oh the joy when I discovered how easy it was to install Skype on the PDA I have on loan, and walk around the yard talking to friends for free!

And then I find out how cheap these PDAs are getting!

Now all we need is to start talking our local councils into setting up free community WiFi hotspots and we could be talking to friends for free, walking around the main street, recording and blogging while we go downloading, and uploading media till our heart's are content!

I working up towards a meeting with my local Mayor, are you?

If your Mayor does not get it you may try to start a Fon movement ( in your town.

BTW: This year there will be VOIP software for the Nokia 770 Internet table ( Nokia 770 is a PDA... ups sorry ... an Internet table running Debian Linux. I would be very surprised if there is not already someone writing Skype for this device, as well. Still I would like to see more FLOSS VOIP solutions. There are some already, like the GIzmo project:

Thanks Teemu, I've been waiting for Gizmo for PDA. Last I looked there was none.

FON looks interesting. It took me a while to understand what it was exactly, but I think I get it. I certainly share their mission at least.

I have emailed FON and asked for what ever advice and support they can offer in my lobbying of the local council here.
