Another one gets it from those who just don't get it

Meg, an inspirational read, and from what I can tell, a pretty cool teacher in Colorado USA got fired for blogging this Christmas. Meg gives a pretty full account from her perspective and has decided to go public with her shocking story. I highly recommend clicking through to Meg's blog - if not only for her story, then for the classic picture that decorates her blog and perfectly symbolises this struggle with the old guard.

Thanks Rose for sending this story on and opening up my old wounds :(

Hi Leigh,

Thanks for pointing to Meg's posting. Interesting story.

As you may or may not know, I work for the "dark side of the force" - administration. What I would dearly love to read, but never will because of US laws on privacy, etc., is the school's side of this story.

I have no idea whether this is true in Meg's case or not, but often the stated reason for dismissal of an employees is simply the tip of the iceberg - an actionable item that has been preceded by other work (or personality) issues.

Great employees are difficult to find and difficult to keep. Unless, there was a serious breach of a stated policy, there has to be a "rest of the story..." I'm not going to get too worked up yet about blogging being a job threatening hobby.

May the force be with you...

Good point Doug, Meg doesn't go to much effort to explain the seemingly irrational actions of her bosses, but does hint that there were some pretty unlikable people in the power wings.

Its true, great boses are difficult to find and difficult to keep (because if they're great to me, someone higher up is surely wanting to fire them).
